Dis-Chem Pharmacies is hiring an experienced Cashier for its Ballito Junction branch. This role is key to ensuring smooth point-of-sale operations while providing excellent customer service. Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • At least 6 months’ experience in cashier/till operations.
  • Computer literacy – MS Office.
  • Strong numerical skills.
  • Proficiency in English (oral and written).
  • Basic customer service skills.
  • Willingness to work retail hours (including weekends and public holidays).
  • South African citizen with a clear credit and criminal record.

Duties

Customer Service

  • Provide professional, friendly service at the till point.
  • Establish positive customer relationships and report complaints or compliments.
  • Stay updated on promotions and sales to assist customers effectively.

Point of Sale Operations

  • Process all transactions accurately, including cash, cards, vouchers, coupons, and loyalty cards (Discovery, Momentum Multiply, ABSA Rewards, etc.).
  • Ensure all items are scanned, recorded, and paid for before leaving the store.
  • Handle refunds, voids, and price changes with supervisor authorisation.
  • Maintain accurate cash flow, place cash in the drop safe, and safeguard passwords.

Compliance & Security

  • Adhere to Dis-Chem’s customer service, security, and operational policies.
  • Recognise and report suspicious behaviour to management.
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed to protect staff and customers.

Competencies

  • Skilled in operating cash registers and balancing tills.
  • Knowledge of processing payments, sales, and refunds.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Presentable, trustworthy, and honest.
  • Strong emotional intelligence and social awareness.
  • Time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Additional languages will be an advantage.
