South African Road Federation (SARF) Bursary Programme 2025

The South African Road Federation (SARF) invites you to apply for their Study Bursary for the 2025 academic year. SARF awards bursaries each year to students in the road transport sector.

  • Road Transport Management
  • Road Engineering (including Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Bridge Engineering, Pavement Engineering, Transportation Planning, Construction Management, Construction Materials, Storm Water, Environment)

Bursary Programme – Expenses Covered & Responsibilities

The SARF bursary is a partial bursary to help with study-related costs. The bursary amount is based on your needs and the Federation Council’s decision.

As a bursary recipient, you will need to:

  • Present your study subject to your local Federation branch
  • Submit a progress report every 6 months
  • Enroll as an associate member of the SARF

Eligibility Requirements

To apply, you must:

  • Preferably be a South African resident, though SADC country members can also apply (SADC includes Angola, Botswana, Comoros, DRC, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe)
  • Be studying towards a qualification in one of the listed road transport fields
  • Be enrolled at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa (University, University of Technology, or equivalent)
  • Have your application endorsed by the appropriate academic authority at your institution
  • National Diploma students must have passed their first semester (S1) exams
  • Degree students must have passed their first-year exams
  • Preference will be given to advanced level students (MTech, MSc, or higher), but undergraduate students can also apply
  • Preference will be given to full-time students, though part-time and distance learning students can apply
  • Preference will be given to employees of SARF members
  • Plan to work in the South African road transport industry after graduation

Submit clear copies of the following documents with your completed application form:

  • Certified copy of your ID document
  • Certified copy of your Grade 11 year-end results
  • Certified copy of your Matric certificate
  • Most recent tertiary results (on institution letterhead)
