Young South Africans between the ages of 18 and 34 can now apply for education-related training opportunities under Phase V of the Presidential Youth Employment Initiative. The Department of Basic Education is offering positions that provide both income and valuable work experience.

Opportunities Available

Education Assistant Roles

These roles focus on classroom support and require at least a matric certificate. Preference will be given to those with tertiary qualifications, especially in education.

  • Curriculum Assistants
  • Reading Champions
  • e-Cadres – ICT in classrooms
  • Care and Support Assistants – psychosocial support
  • Laboratory Assistants
  • Workshop Assistants

General School Assistant Roles

No matric is required for these roles. Duties involve school maintenance, sport, and cultural support.

  • Handymen or women
  • Sports and Enrichment Assistants

Who Can Apply

  • South African citizens aged 18 to 34
  • Must have a South African bank account
  • Must live within 5 km of an urban school or 30 km of a rural or farm school
  • Open to those who participated in Phase I, II, III, or IV

Stipend & Benefits

R4 000 per month
Less 1% UIF deduction
Includes R30 data allowance
