What the Bursary Covers
The bursary provides comprehensive financial support to qualifying students.
Funding covers:
- Tuition fees
- Prescribed books
- Accommodation
- Meals
- Living allowances
- Vacation work where available
Funding is provided subject to the bursary agreement and academic performance requirements.
Who Can Apply
The bursary is open to South African youth who meet all eligibility requirements and who show interest in building careers within the defence industry.
Applicants must:
- Be South African citizens
- Be currently in Matric or have completed Matric
- Intend to study or be studying full time in one of the approved fields
- Be accepted or planning to study at a recognised public tertiary institution
- Demonstrate strong academic performance
- Demonstrate financial need
- Be from a previously disadvantaged background
Academic Requirements
Applicants must meet the following academic criteria.
- Minimum achievement of levels 5, 6, or 7 in Mathematics
- Minimum achievement of levels 5, 6, or 7 in Physical Science
- Minimum achievement of levels 5, 6, or 7 in English
Applicants who do not meet the minimum academic requirements will not be considered.
Financial Eligibility
Applicants must demonstrate financial need.
- Combined household income must not exceed R1 million per year
Proof of income must be submitted as part of the application process.
Career Commitment Expectations
Applicants must show interest in pursuing careers within the defence industry. The bursary aims to build a pipeline of skilled professionals who can contribute to defence research, development, and manufacturing in South Africa.
Required Documents
Applicants must submit clear certified copies of all required documentation. Missing documents may result in disqualification.
Required documents include:
- Certified copy of South African ID
- Certified copy of Matric mid year results if currently in Matric
- Certified copy of Matric certificate if completed
- Certified copy of full academic record if currently studying
- Certified copies of parents or guardians ID documents or death certificates
- Proof of household income including payslips, affidavits, or SASSA grant proof
Shortlisted candidates will later be required to submit:
- Certified copy of final Matric results
- Proof of university acceptance or registration
- Student number
- Fees statement
