The Executive Mayor of Rand West City Local Municipality invites students to apply for the 2026 Mayoral Bursary Programme. The bursary aims to support deserving youth from Randfontein, Westonaria and surrounding areas who want to pursue undergraduate studies or artisan training at a public university or TVET college in South Africa.
Areas of Study Covered
Bursaries will be awarded in the following fields:
- Agriculture
- Energy
- Engineering
- Environmental Health
- Finance
- Information Technology
- Mining
- Public Management
- Business Management
- Scarce and Critical Skills (as identified by the Municipality)
What the Bursary Covers
The bursary may provide cover for:
- Registration fees
- Tuition fees
- Study materials
- Accommodation and meals (only in special cases based on need)
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for this bursary, applicants must:
- Be a South African citizen
- Live within Rand West City Local Municipality (Gauteng Province)
- Be in Matric or have completed Matric
- Plan to study full-time in 2026
- Be accepted or provisionally accepted at a public university or TVET college
- Come from a household earning R350 000 or less per year
- Preference will be given to:
- Applicants listed in the indigent database
- Students from disadvantaged backgrounds
- Previously disadvantaged communities
Required Documents
Applicants must submit:
- Certified copy of South African ID
- Matric latest results (if still in school)
- Matric certificate (if completed)
- Recent academic transcript (if already studying)
- Proof of application/acceptance to a tertiary institution
- Proof of residence
- Certified copies of parents’/guardians’ ID documents
- Proof of household income (payslips, affidavit, or SASSA proof)
- Death certificate(s) if parents are deceased
- Doctor’s medical certificate (if disabled)
