The Monocle Foundation is offering bursaries for the 2026 academic year to support previously disadvantaged black female students in South Africa. Established in 2014, the foundation is committed to empowering young women through education, financial literacy, mentorship and personal development.
This bursary supports talented women who demonstrate academic commitment but have limited to no funding to pursue their studies further.
Who Can Apply
Applications are open to:
- Black female students
- South African citizens
- Currently in 2nd year of study or higher (undergraduate or postgraduate)
- Studying at a recognised South African university
- With limited or no financial support
Fields of Study
Applicants may be studying in (but not limited to) these fields:
- Accounting
- Economics
- Engineering
- Computer Science
- Finance
- Mathematics
- Medicine
- Other approved degrees in business, science or technology
What the Bursary Covers
The Monocle Foundation offers comprehensive financial and academic support, including:
- Full tuition fees
- Accommodation allowance
- Laptop provision
- Books and study materials
- Subsistence allowance
- Career counselling
- Microsoft Office training course
Required Application Documents
Applications must include:
- Motivational letter to the Trustees
(include personal background, field of study, future goals, and financial need) - Updated CV
- Certified copy of South African ID
- Full academic record (stamped by university)
- Grade 12 certificate
- Copy of degree (if already a graduate)
- Detailed financial breakdown of required funding:
- Tuition fees
- Study materials
- Accommodation
- Subsistence allowance
Application Process
- Screening: Application review
- Telephonic Interview: Conducted by the Trust Administrator
- Meet & Greet: Personal introduction session
- Trustee Interview: Final stage
- Final Decision: Successful applicants notified by the Foundation
