Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this opportunity, applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- A National Diploma in Catering or Hospitality Management (TVET, NQF Level 6)
- Computer literacy
- Basic physical fitness (ability to lift, carry and push trolleys and heavy objects)
- Knowledge of food safety practices, including Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) standards
- Understanding of food preparation, hygiene, dishwashing, and service line procedures
- Strong communication and time management skills
Key Responsibilities and Skills Development Areas
As a Food Services Trainee, you will receive training and practical exposure in:
- Food preparation for normal and therapeutic diets
- Portioning and plating food according to hospital diet lists
- Using commercial kitchen equipment like dishwashers and trolleys
- Storing, packing, and labelling of food and dietary supplies
- Maintaining hygiene in kitchen workspaces, food service units, and ward trolleys
- Learning compliance with hospital food safety protocols and cleaning schedules
- Team-based work under supervision in a public health facility environment
