About the Role
The Artisan Assistant provides hands-on support in maintaining hospital infrastructure and ensuring all technical and mechanical systems operate efficiently. The position involves assisting with maintenance, installations, repairs, and manufacturing tasks under the supervision of a qualified artisan or supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out minor maintenance and repair work on building, electrical, plumbing, air-conditioning, mechanical, and carpentry components.
- Perform routine checks, installations, and emergency repairs on fixtures and equipment.
- Assist artisans with manufacturing, modification, and installation of equipment and furniture.
- Conduct basic painting, carpentry, and safety checks, including replacing washers, gaskets, and filters.
- Manage and control tools, equipment, and materials required for maintenance tasks.
- Ensure all work areas are clean and organized after completion of tasks.
- Support the supervisor in planning and executing maintenance duties.
- Complete and maintain job cards and basic administrative records.
- Participate in standby and overtime duties when required.
- Adhere to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Machinery Act requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 10 / Standard 8 (or equivalent).
- Valid Code B/EB Driver’s Licence.
- Appropriate experience in building, plumbing, air-conditioning, electrical, painting, or mechanical maintenance.
- Ability to operate tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Physically fit and capable of performing heavy manual labour.
- Willingness to work rotational shifts and assist across multiple artisan disciplines.
- Knowledge of the Machinery and Occupational Health and Safety Acts, National Building Regulations (NBR), and SABA 1475 standards.
