The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is inviting applications for the position of Artisan Foreman Grade A (Electrical) at Brewelskloof Hospital under the Cape Winelands TB Centre.

About the Role

The Artisan Foreman (Electrical) will oversee electrical maintenance, repairs, and installations across hospital facilities. The role requires a qualified and experienced professional to manage a technical team, ensure safety compliance, and maintain high standards of operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Plan and implement preventative maintenance schedules for all electrical systems and installations.
  • Coordinate electrical repairs and project execution across the sub-district.
  • Ensure compliance with the Machinery and Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85).
  • Manage risks, faults, and incidents to ensure patient and staff safety.
  • Maintain accurate job cards, registers, and reports for all maintenance activities.

Supervision and Leadership

  • Supervise, mentor, and train technical staff in electrical work and new procedures.
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities of artisans and assistants to ensure quality workmanship.
  • Implement staff performance management and provide in-service training.

Quality Assurance and Administration

  • Conduct quality control on all maintenance and repair work performed.
  • Manage budgets, expenditure, and procurement for maintenance materials and tools.
  • Compile, analyse, and submit detailed operational and performance reports.
  • Ensure tools, machinery, and materials are effectively controlled and maintained.

Support and Compliance

  • Support procurement processes for materials and electrical components.
  • Conduct routine inspections to maintain compliance with safety and technical standards.
  • Be available for standby, overtime, and emergency repair duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Trade Test Certificate in Electrical Artisanship.
  • 5 years of post-trade test experience as an Artisan.
  • Valid Wireman’s Licence.
  • Code B/EB Driver’s Licence.
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual duties.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and public holidays when required.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, safety regulations, and fault-finding to component level.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proven experience managing a technical workshop and staff.
  • Strong understanding of budgeting, stock control, and procurement processes.
