Transnet is offering apprenticeship opportunities for Welder trainees across four depots. This programme combines practical workplace learning with structured classroom instruction, preparing candidates to qualify as artisans in the welding trade.

About the Programme

The apprenticeship equips learners with the technical and hands-on skills needed to build, assemble, and repair welded components in line with industry standards. Apprentices will work alongside experienced artisans while attending accredited training modules.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare work areas, equipment, and tools for welding tasks.
• Use hand, power, and measuring tools for accurate work.
• Manufacture, assemble, and inspect welded structures and components.
• Test, commission, and maintain welding-related installations.
• Repair and modify components when required.
• Follow strict workplace safety and quality standards.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have one of the following qualification routes:

N2 Subjects

• Mathematics (Pure)
• Engineering Science
• Plating & Structural Drawing / Engineering Drawing (Draughting)
• Metal Worker’s Theory / Plater’s Theory

N3 – N6 Subjects

• Mathematics (Pure)
• Engineering Science
• Plating & Structural Drawing / Engineering Drawing (Draughting)
• Mechano-technology

NCV Level 4

• English, Mathematics (Pure), Life Orientation
• Vocational subjects: Engineering Process, Professional Engineering Practice, Applied Engineering Technology, Welding

Technical Grade 12
