Minimum Requirements
- Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine.
- Ability to work as a specialist physician at a Large Regional Hospital attached to a teaching institution.
- Ability to work and make clinical decisions independently.
- Ability to manage a broad spectrum of medical cases competently.
- Proven leadership abilities and experience in supervision of staff and resources and proven experience in principles of planning, organizing and implementation.
- Ability to provide leadership and management within the Department of Medicine.
- Excellent individual coping and interpersonal skills and ability to perform well within a multidisciplinary team context.
- Enthusiasm to attend and present training and educational courses to broaden clinical and managerial skills and knowledge.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, hospital procedures and policies.
- Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine.
- Grade 2: A minimum of 5 years’ appropriate experience as Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA (or a recognised foreign Health Professional Council in respect of a foreign qualified employee) as a Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine.
- Grade 3: A minimum of 10 years’ appropriate experience as Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA (or a recognised foreign Health Professional Council in respect of a foreign qualified employee) as a Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine.
- Valid (Code B/EB) driver’s licence, willingness and ability to travel. It will be expected of the successful candidate to participate in a system of remunerated commuted overtime.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialist clinical services and comprehensive medical care to in-patients and out-patients.
- Financial management by effective and efficient use of resources.
- Adhere to requirements for all people management matters.
- Create a learning environment for junior staff and students, both under-and postgraduate.
- Provide outreach and support services at primary care and district level.
- Coordination of relevant clinical governance and administrative requirements.
- Complete and submit required medical reports and documentation for legal and administrative purposes.
- Complete the required CPD activities to maintain registration with the HPCSA.
