Sun International hospitality group is looking for a skilled and professional Restaurant Host to join their front-of-house team in Cape Town. This permanent, full-time position is ideal for individuals with experience in guest service, food and beverage operations, and restaurant floor coordination.

What You’ll Do as a Restaurant Host
This role plays a key part in the smooth day-to-day operation of the restaurant. You’ll be responsible for welcoming guests, managing bookings, and ensuring excellent service delivery throughout each shift.
Your main responsibilities will include:
Guest Hosting and Seating
- Greet and welcome all guests upon arrival
- Manage reservations and seat guests at the appropriate tables
- Monitor table turnover and waitlist times
- Provide menus and explain menu items if needed
- Handle special guest requests and liaise with kitchen staff accordingly
- Promote menu specials and beverage offers
- Present bills and clear tables after service
Restaurant Floor and Guest Area Setup
- Prepare tables with correct place settings before service
- Check restaurant cleanliness, lighting, and equipment functionality
- Answer phone calls and take bookings
- Ensure all operating equipment is used and stored correctly
- Identify and report any floor issues before service starts
Cashiering and Admin Tasks
- Process billing transactions for meals and drinks
- Reconcile guest payments and float at end of shift
- Print guest feedback forms and insert into billing folders
- Prepare house accounts and supporting documents for audit
- Safely transport and secure cash float
Customer Service and Engagement
- Offer warm greetings to all customers and interact with respect
- Recognise repeat customers and learn their preferences
- Share info on menu options, promotions, and venue facilities
- Handle complaints professionally and escalate where necessary
What You Need to Apply
To be considered, you’ll need the following:
Education
- Grade 12 preferred
- Grade 10 accepted with at least 2 years’ experience as a waiter or host
Experience
- 2 years in a customer-facing environment, ideally in hospitality or restaurant service
Essential Skills
- Strong spoken English communication skills
- Basic math and cashiering knowledge
- Familiarity with food and beverage service standards
- Upselling and menu recommendation skills
- Basic computer literacy
- Attention to detail and ability to follow SOPs
- Customer-centric attitude and teamwork skills
