What the Internship Involves
You’ll assist with a range of daily library tasks that help keep the academic engine running smoothly. It’s more than just shelving books—you’ll be gaining skills that matter.
Your daily responsibilities will include:
- Assisting at the circulation desk (book loans, renewals, returns)
- Managing journals, newspapers, and clippings
- Supporting shelf reading and ensuring neat library presentation
- Helping students with OPAC searches and computer use
- Updating notice boards and setting up library displays
- Checking functionality of computers, printers, and copiers
- Supporting the Librarian with workshops, photocopying, and admin
What You’ll Need
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science (NQF Level 7)
- Good communication skills and a strong customer service orientation
- Ability to work in a team, multitask, and meet deadlines
- Attention to detail and time management skills
- Knowledge of the South African higher education system is an advantage
