What the Role Involves

Depending on experience and qualifications, appointments may range from Fire Fighter in Training to Leading Fire Fighter within Sasol’s emergency management structure.

Key Responsibilities

Participants in the programme will perform operational and training duties.

Responsibilities include

  • Responding to emergency incidents in plant and facility environments
  • Applying Safety Health and Environment practices during emergency operations
  • Maintaining firefighting and life support equipment
  • Servicing portable firefighting equipment across buildings and operational plants
  • Participating in physical and technical firefighter training programmes
  • Supporting safety improvement initiatives within operations
  • Collaborating with internal safety teams and emergency services

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria.

Grade 12 with Mathematics or equivalent qualification
Medically fit according to firefighter fitness standards
0 to 5 years relevant experience

Advantageous Qualifications

The following certifications will be beneficial but are not mandatory.

  • Fire Fighter Level 1 and Level 2 (NFPA 1001)
  • Hazmat Awareness and Operations (NFPA 1072 or NFPA 472)
  • HPCSA Registered Basic Ambulance Assistant
  • First Aid Level 3
  • Intermediate Life Support

Placement within Sasol’s emergency services structure will depend on experience and qualifications.
