Sasol is inviting South African students to apply for the Mining Bursary Programme for 2025 academic year. This bursary is aimed at supporting students in various engineering and geology fields.

Bursaries are available for the following undergraduate degrees:
- Electrical Engineering
- Electronic Engineering
- Geology
- Industrial Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mine Surveying
- Mining Engineering
Selection Process
Shortlisted candidates will complete an online psychometric test before moving to the interview phase. All applicants will be notified of the outcome by 30 November 2024.
Bursary Obligations
The bursary includes a work-back or pay-back requirement.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen (by birth).
- Residency: Must reside in one of the Sasol Mining Fenceline communities:
- Mpumalanga (Gert Sibande District – Secunda Fenceline): Govan Mbeki, Lekwa, Dipaleseng, Msukaligwa municipalities.
- Nkangala District (Secunda Fenceline): eMalahleni municipality.
- Free State (Fezile Dabi District – Sasolburg Fenceline): Metsimaholo, Ngwathe municipalities.
- Gauteng (Sedibeng District – Sasolburg Fenceline): Emfuleni, Lesedi municipalities.
- Education: Must have completed Matric.
- Study Status: Must be studying full-time toward one of the specified undergraduate qualifications (no dual/combined/hybrid degrees).
- Study Year: Must be in 1st to 4th year of study in 2024.
- Institution: Must be studying at a recognized and accredited University or University of Technology in South Africa (not UNISA).
- Academic Performance:
- BEng and BSc Eng students:
- Mathematics: Level 6 (70–79%)
- Physical Science: Level 6 (70–79%)
- English: Level 5 (60–69%) for First Additional Language or Home Language, or Level 4 (50–59%) for Second Additional Language.
- BEng Tech students:
- Mathematics: Level 5 (60–69%)
- Physical Science: Level 5 (60–69%)
- English: Level 5 (60–69%) for First Additional Language or Home Language, or Level 4 (50–59%) for Second Additional Language.
- BEng and BSc Eng students:
Special Requirements:
- Mine Surveying students: Must study at the University of Johannesburg.
- Geology students: Must intend to complete an Honours degree.
