SASSA Internship and WIL Opportunities Open for 2026 Intake

The South African Social Security Agency has opened applications for its Internship and Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Programme 2026, offering workplace training opportunities for unemployed youth.

The programme is aimed at graduates and TVET students who need practical experience to start careers in government administration and social development services.

Successful candidates will be placed at SASSA offices in East London, Eastern Cape, where they will gain experience in areas such as grant administration, ICT, finance, communications and human capital management.

Applications close on 13 March 2026.

SASSA Internship Programme 2026

The internship programme is designed for graduates who hold a Degree, BTech or National Diploma (NQF Level 6 or 7) in a relevant field.

Successful candidates will be appointed on a 24-month contract and will receive a monthly stipend of R7 860.50.

SASSA Work Integrated Learning Programme 2026

The Work Integrated Learning (WIL) programme is designed for TVET graduates with an N6 National Certificate who need workplace experience to complete their qualifications.

Successful candidates will be appointed for an 18-month programme and will receive a monthly stipend of R5 639.75.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria.

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must be between 18 and 35 years old
  • Must hold the relevant qualification
  • Must be willing to work in East London, Eastern Cape
  • Must not have previously participated in a similar internship programme

Internship Duration and Stipend

Internship Programme

  • Duration: 24 months
  • Monthly stipend: R7 860.50

Work Integrated Learning Programme

  • Duration: 18 months
  • Monthly stipend: R5 639.75

Important Notes

  • Foreign qualifications must be evaluated by SAQA
  • Successful candidates will undergo qualification verification, criminal checks and ITC screening
  • If applicants do not receive feedback within three months after the closing date, their application should be considered unsuccessful

Preference may be given to candidates who help improve race, gender and disability representivity in the department.
