South African Reserve Bank (SARB) Opens Applications for 2025 Bursary Programme

The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) invites South African students to apply for its Bursary Programme for the 2025 academic year.

The bursaries will be awarded for undergraduate degree studies in fields relevant to SARB functions, such as Accounting, Actuarial Science, Economics, Finance, Information Technology, Law, Mathematical Statistics, as well as Dentistry, Medicine, and Social Work.

Programme Overview

The SARB bursary is designed to support South African students who demonstrate financial need and academic excellence.

The bursary covers full-time undergraduate studies at recognized and accredited universities in South Africa. Bursaries are reviewed annually, and recipients are not required to reapply each year.

  • Eligibility Notification: Shortlisted candidates will be contacted within one month after the application closing date.
  • Selection Process: Candidates may undergo testing and attend an interview before being awarded a bursary.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the bursary:

  • Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.
  • Age: Must be under 30 years old.
  • Education: Must have completed Matric or be currently in Matric.
  • Study Intent: Must intend to study full-time towards an undergraduate degree.
  • First-Year Students: Must be entering the 1st year of study in 2025.
  • University Acceptance: Must have been accepted or provisionally accepted to study at a recognized and accredited university in South Africa.
  • Academic Achievement: Must have achieved a minimum overall average of 70% for Matric June exams.
  • Financial Need: Must demonstrate financial need and inability to afford university without a bursary.
  • Background: Must be from a disadvantaged background.

  • ID document
  • Matric June results (if currently in Matric)
  • Matric final results/certificate (if completed Matric)
  • Proof of acceptance/provisional acceptance at a university for the 2025 academic year (on institution letterhead, with student number)
  • Motivational essay (approximately 250 words) explaining why you deserve the bursary and how it will benefit your future career.
