To study in Canada, you need a Study Permit instead of a visa.
Step 1: Get an Acceptance Letter from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI)
Ensure your chosen university is on Canada’s DLI list, as only these institutions can sponsor international students.
Step 2: Provide Proof of Funds
You need to show you can cover tuition and living costs. Minimum financial proof includes CAD 10,000 per year for living expenses, plus tuition fees.
Step 3: Complete the Online Visa Application
Apply through the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) portal and pay the visa application fee of CAD 150.
Step 4: Give Biometrics & Pass a Medical Exam
South African students must submit biometric data and undergo a medical examination with an approved panel physician.
Step 5: Receive a Decision & Travel to Canada
If approved, you will receive a Port of Entry (POE) Letter of Introduction, which you must show at the airport upon arrival.
