About the Role
As a Service Assistant intern, you’ll work directly under the Head of Sales & Workplace Banking. Your responsibilities will revolve around opening customer accounts, managing account maintenance, supporting sales initiatives, and enhancing customer retention strategies.
This is a full-time role and forms part of Absa’s commitment to building the next generation of African banking talent.
What You’ll Be Doing
Account Opening & Maintenance (75%)
You’ll be responsible for:
- Receiving and verifying account application forms
- Ensuring documents meet KYC compliance
- Capturing customer details in relevant systems
- Scanning and archiving applications as per policy
- Coordinating employer portfolio reports
- Managing turnaround times (TAT) and right-to-serve (RTS) standards
Customer Retention (20%)
You will also engage with customers by:
- Introducing new products and services
- Sending promotional emails and messages
- Cross-selling and activating dormant accounts
- Handling customer feedback and complaints
- Collecting market intelligence for product improvement
Business Support (5%)
- Assist with tasks like ordering stationery and managing team assets
- Support team goals and help improve operational efficiency
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and maintain internal risk controls
What You Need to Qualify
Minimum Requirements
- Higher Certificate or Advanced National Certificate in Business, Commerce or Management
- Graduate-level qualification (Finance or Accounting preferred)
- Basic computer literacy
- Proficiency in English and Swahili is an advantage
- Customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work independently, solve problems, and maintain quality standards

- Certificate of Proficiency (COP)
- Background in Financial Services or Accounting
