Council for Geoscience Graduate Training Program 2025

The Council for Geoscience (CGS) is offering a Human Resources internship to support unemployed graduates and provide practical training in HR operations.

This 2-year internship will help you gain valuable experience in HR administration, recruitment, employee relations, and learning and development. If you’re passionate about people and processes, this is a good opportunity to enter the public sector and grow your HR skills.

Closing Date: 23 May 2025
Location: Pretoria, Gauteng
Stipend: R13 000 per month
Contract Duration: 24 months (Fixed Term)

What You’ll Do During the Program

You’ll work directly with the HR Manager and team, performing administrative and support tasks in these core areas:

Recruitment

  • Help screen job applications
  • Schedule interviews and prepare interview packs
  • Conduct pre-employment screening and prepare onboarding documents

HR Administration

  • Support payroll and employee benefits admin
  • Maintain employee records and file HR documents
  • Organise internal HR meetings and events

Learning and Development

  • Assist with training and development activities for employees

Employee Relations

  • Support day-to-day employee relations initiatives

Project Support

  • Assist in implementing internal HR projects such as wellness programs and performance reviews

Compliance and Quality Assurance

  • Ensure activities meet ISO standards and comply with HR legislation
  • Follow internal policies and maintain documentation quality

Who Can Apply

You must meet these minimum requirements to be considered:

Education

  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • A recognised NQF Level 5 qualification in:
    • Human Resources Management
    • Human Resources Development
    • Or any equivalent HR-related qualification

Skills and Personal Traits

  • Basic knowledge of South African labour laws (BCEA, LRA, EEA, SDA)
  • Strong organisational and admin skills
  • Computer literacy (MS Office)
  • Attention to detail and good analytical ability
  • Willingness to learn and positive attitude
  • Fluent in English

Experience

  • No prior working experience is required
