Impala Platinum (Implats) is offering 24-month paid internship opportunities for graduates in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering / Metallurgy, and Nursing. These internships are designed to provide industry experience, professional development, and exposure to mining and metallurgical operations.
Location: Various Impala operations across South Africa
Duration: 24 months
Closing Date: 21 May 2025
Internship: Chemical Engineering / Metallurgy
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Rotational work experience across Smelting, Concentrator, PMR, and BMR operations
- Support technical and business improvement projects
- Provide engineering assistance to operational teams
- Submit reports and attend all required technical training
What You Need:
- NQF Level 7 qualification in Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy
- Strong understanding of process or metallurgical engineering
- Medically fit for plant environments
Internship: Mechanical Engineering
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Work with multidisciplinary engineering teams in plant operations
- Contribute to technical problem-solving and project planning
- Gain safety, technical and managerial exposure in a production environment
- Complete training modules and technical reporting assignments
What You Need:
- NQF Level 7 qualification in Mechanical Engineering
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems in heavy industry
- Medically fit for plant and operational environments
Internship: Nursing (General / Occupational Health)
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Support health screening including spirometry, audiometry, and routine medicals
- Deliver education and awareness campaigns around health and lifestyle
- Participate in medical surveillance and support employee wellness
- Engage with external occupational health professionals
What You Need:
- NQF Level 6 Diploma in General Nursing or Occupational Health
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council (advantageous)
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Medically fit for BMR and/or PMR operations
Who Should Apply?

- Individuals passionate about mining, healthcare or engineering in the PGM industry
- Applicants who are medically fit and can work in an industrial environment
- South African citizens willing to commit to a 2-year structured training programme
