Transnet Rail Infrastructure (TRIM) is offering a two-year Young Professionals in Training (YPT) programme aimed at unemployed graduates aged 18 to 35.
This structured graduate development initiative is more than just work experience. It combines institutional training with real on-the-job exposure, helping you gain the technical and professional skills needed to increase your chances of long-term employment in the public or private sector.

What Is the Transnet YPT Programme All About?
The programme gives young professionals access to mentorship, professional networks, and exposure to real projects within the Transnet Rail Infrastructure environment. Your progress will be reviewed every six months to ensure your growth matches your career goals and the company’s expectations.
Over 24 months, you’ll rotate through departments, receive expert guidance, and build critical experience aligned with your qualification.
Available Graduate Training Fields
You can apply if you hold a Bachelor’s degree or BTech in any of the following areas:
- Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
- Economics or Transport Economics (BCom or Honours)
- Criminology (Bachelors or Honours)
Note: This programme is only open to applicants without previous work experience in their field of study.
Minimum Requirements to Apply
- Must be a South African citizen, aged 18–35 years
- Must have completed a Bachelor’s Degree or BTech (NQF Level 6 or higher) from a DHET-registered institution
- Must be unemployed and have no prior relevant work experience
- Must be willing to commit to a full-time 24-month programme
- Must be open to placement at any Transnet depot or department as required
