Educational Requirements
- Grade 12 with pure Mathematics and/or Physical Science
Other Requirements
- Be prepared for periodic medical surveillance and safety behavioral risk assessments during selection and every 12 months.
- Must meet physical requirements for hearing, vision, mental, and fitness (verified through medical tests and safety assessments).
- Candidates must be at least 21 years old for train driver or train control duties (as per SANS 3000, par 6.2.6.8).
Minimum Trainee Prerequisites
- Minimum height of 1.6m.
- Psychomotor ability (assessed through the Vienna Testing System (VTS)).
- Ability to carry heavy objects.
Functional Training
- Be prepared to undergo theoretical and practical training for Train Assistant duties to become certified to work independently.
- Be willing and capable of obtaining a Train Assistant duties certificate successfully.
