The University of the Free State (UFS) is excited to invite you to apply for the Star of Stars Competition. This competition offers bursaries for students in the Free State province to study at UFS in 2025.
Bursary Application Closing Date: 15 August 2024
Selection Criteria
Students will be evaluated based on:
- Academic performance
- Leadership achievements
- Community involvement
Competition Timeline
- Top 20 finalists announced: By 30 September 2024
- Prizes delivered to eligible candidates: At their schools
- Winners announced: During a gala evening in early February 2025
- Top 10 finalists: Must attend the Star of Stars weekend and gala event

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Currently in Matric in 2024
- Residing in one of the following Free State districts: Fezile Dabi, Lejweleputswa, Motheo, Thabo Mofutsanyana, Xhariep
- Attending a Quintile 1, 2, or 3 school in the Free State (no-fee school)
- Strong academic record
- Applied to UFS for the 2025 academic year
- Agreement to the competition’s terms and conditions

Submit the application with the following supporting documents:
- Certified copy of ID document
- Certified copy of Grade 11 final results
- Certified copy of Matric March results
- Certified copy of Matric June results
- Proof of Grade 11 and Matric achievements (letters/certificates)
- Motivational letter (approximately 500 words)
- Ensure the application form is stamped and signed by your school principal
