Beaufort West Local Municipality has opened applications for Building Control Internships 2026, offering unemployed youth from the local municipal area an opportunity to gain practical workplace experience within Infrastructure Services.

Purpose of the Internship

The programme is designed to:

  • Provide unemployed youth with practical workplace exposure
  • Build skills in building control and infrastructure services
  • Support planning, design, and compliance functions
  • Strengthen municipal service delivery capacity

Interns will work under supervision while learning how building control functions operate within a local government environment.

Who Should Apply

This internship is strictly for local residents of the Beaufort West municipal area who meet all the requirements. Applicants must be unemployed and available for the full 12 month duration.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • National Diploma in Civil Engineering
  • National Diploma in Town Planning
  • National Diploma in Building Science
  • N5 Building qualification
  • Any civil or building related qualification with Matric

Additional requirements:

  • Aged between 20 and 40 years
  • Must be unemployed
  • Must reside within the Beaufort West Municipal Area
  • Valid South African ID
  • Physically fit for field and office work
  • Clear criminal record
  • SAPS address confirmation or a letter from your ward councillor

Applicants who do not meet these requirements may be disqualified.

Selection Process

Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a written diagnostic assessment conducted by the Infrastructure Services Department.

Important points to note:

  • Only candidates who pass the assessment will qualify for the internship
  • Final selection is based on assessment results and verification checks
  • The municipality reserves the right not to appoint

  • Certified copies of qualifications
  • Certified copy of South African ID
  • Proof of residence from SAPS or ward councillor
