Citrus Academy Bursary Programme 2025

The Citrus Academy invites applications from South African students, as well as citizens of Zimbabwe and Swaziland, for its prestigious Bursary Programme for the 2025 academic year. This programme is designed to support students pursuing studies in agricultural fields related to citrus production or research.

What the Bursary Covers:
The Citrus Academy Bursary offers partial financial support, covering a range of study-related expenses including:
- Tuition fees
- Prescribed books and stationery
- Accommodation and meals
- Research costs (for postgraduate students)
- Other relevant study-related expenses
Bursary Obligations:
Recipients of the bursary will be required to sign a Bursary Agreement with Citrus Academy. Additionally, they must:
- Maintain certain academic standards.
- Commit to the Citrus Academy Code of Conduct.
- Complete a “work-back service contract” within the citrus industry after graduation. The duration of work will be equivalent to the number of years the bursary was received (e.g., 1 year of work for 1 year of funding).
Eligibility Criteria:
To be considered for this bursary, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Be a citizen of South Africa, Zimbabwe, or Swaziland.
- Have completed Matric.
- Be studying full-time or part-time towards a qualification in a field related to citrus production or research.
- Be entering your 2nd year or higher of study in 2025.
- Be enrolled at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa (Universities, Colleges, or Universities of Technology).
- Have a genuine interest in pursuing a career within the citrus industry.
- Meet all criteria outlined in the Citrus Academy Bursary Agreement (.pdf).
Selection Criteria:
Applicants will be evaluated based on:
- Previously disadvantaged status.
- Relevance of the field of study.
- Academic performance.
- Financial need.
- Background relation to the citrus industry.
- Gender (preference will be given to female students).
- Disability status (students with disabilities are encouraged to apply).

Applications must be submitted online via the Citrus Academy Bursary Application 2025 portal. Ensure that you upload clear copies of the following required documents:
- Certified copy of your ID document (or passport if a citizen of Zimbabwe or Swaziland).
- Certified copy of your secondary education results.
- Certified copy of your most recent tertiary academic record.
- Motivational essay (max 500 words) explaining why you wish to study further, your background in the citrus industry, and how you plan to contribute to the industry after completing your studies.
- Details of your proposed research project (for postgraduate students).
Selection Process:
- After submitting your application, you will receive a notification of successful submission.
- Applications will be evaluated using a weighted scoring system, with postgraduate applications assessed by citrus researchers and academics.
- Top candidates will be shortlisted for final approval.
- Successful candidates will be informed between mid-December 2024 and mid-January 2025. If you do not receive feedback by this time, please consider your application unsuccessful.
