Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum Education: NQF 4 - Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science
  • Desired Education: NQF 6 - National Diploma in Chemistry, Microbiology or Natural Sciences
  • Competent to collect water samples for analytical analysis using different sampling techniques
  • Ability to perform the basic functions on Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Understanding of general laboratory, water sampling, quality and SHERQ procedures
  • Basic understanding of ISO 17025 as applied in testing laboratories
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Code 8 driver’s license with two (2) years driving Experience
  • working in an analytical laboratory environment
  • Physically fit to work outdoors and spend long hours driving
  • Understanding of basic water sampling procedures for distribution and raw water
  • Knowledge of good laboratory practice (GLP)
  • Knowledge of ISO17025 as applied in testing laboratories
  • Basic Computer literacy
  • Ability to prioritise, organise and plan
  • Basic skills on Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Conscientious, ability to follow procedures in a routine laboratory
  • Quality and output driven person who can handle pressure and routine work
  • Ability to interact with staff and customers
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to work after hours, weekends and public holidays
  • The overall responsibility of the successful candidate will be to perform the collection of water and effluent samples from catchment, production, distribution and reticulation systems using various sampling techniques as well as performing special analytical field analyses.
  • Primary Duties
  • Perform water sampling for various analysis (hydrobiology, microbiology, and chemistry) throughout the water cycle.
  • Performing certain fundamental analysis in the laboratory and on-site (e.g. chlorine, temperature and DO sample preservation).
  • Perform uploading and downloading of handhelds devices.
  • Performance and documentation of basic quality control checks of identified analytical tests.
  • Undertaking and documentation of basic maintenance of sampling equipment, sample points and instrumentation.
  • Undertaking of specific cleaning task as required by the GLP and ISO methods.
  • Undertaking and documentation of vehicle maintenance
  • Undertaking long hours of driving.
  • The adherence to SHE practices and good housekeeping principles in the area of work
