Medical Technologist Grade 1 to 3: Clinical Pathology or Chemical Pathology

Minimum Requirements
- Trained and qualified in laboratory techniques, with recent appropriate experience and close attention to detail.
- Strong knowledge of the laboratory quality management systems and regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication Trained and qualified in ISO 15189 with work experience in an accredited laboratory.
- Knowledge about routine drug analysis and the importance of patient management.
- Excellent knowledge and skills in use and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Ability to work in a team and independently.
- Proficiency in the management system implementation and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Perform after hours, weekend and public holidays as required.
- Grade 1: None after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Technologist: Clinical Pathology or Chemical Pathology in respect of South African qualified employees.
- 1-year relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Technologist: Clinical Pathology or Chemical Pathology in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa.
- Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Technologist: Clinical Pathology or Chemical Pathology in respect of South African qualified employees.
- A minimum of 11 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Technologist: Clinical Pathology or Chemical Pathology in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa.
- Grade 3: A minimum of 20 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Technologist: Clinical Pathology or Chemical Pathology in respect of South African qualified employees.
- A minimum of 21 years’ relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Technologist: Clinical Pathology or Chemical Pathology in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa.
Responsibilities
- Specimen receipt and handling. Performance of TDM assays. Electronic data capture (DISALAB) and clinician interface. Maintenance of the IQC programme. Instrument and Equipment Maintenance. Specialised assays – Sample receipt and handling. Assistance with stock management.
