Minimum Requirements

  • BSc Eng/B Eng/BTech Eng Mechanical
  • Plus, ECSA Professional Registration
  • Master’s Degree count for 2 Years experience, Doctorate Degree count for 3 Years experience.
  • 15 years post Graduate Engineering that includes 12 Years experience specifically in the Engineering aspects related to the specific product/service and with above average technical competency and experience in Engineering aspects related to the specific product/service with ability to function across disciplines
  • specifically related to the Engineering aspect of Vibration Monitoring and Diagnostics, on large power generation steam and gas Turbo generator plant including
  • SCI RBM Ware; CSI OilView,CSI MotoView;
  • On-Line Systems (DM2000 and System 1 V 5.1 to 5.51 Siemens VibroCam 5000,Viper and Alstom EPRO),
  • Velocity and Displacement probes Locations
  • Orientations on the units, vibration protection capabilities I.e. interfacing with DCS, alarms and trips settings.
  • Vibration Monitoring and analysis, multi shaft balancing, Tribology, Thermography, Laser Alignment and ultrasound vibration Testing
  • of quality management systems and relevant ISO standards
  • of the OHSA, construction Regulations and Environmental Regulation

Responsibilities

  • Above average technical competency in field Turbo Generator Engineering, Maintenance, Refurbishment and overhaul
  • Above average strategic analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High level of management skills
  • High level investigative skills and technical negotiating skills
  • High level of computer Literacy in MS Word, Ms Excel, MS Power Point, Ms Projects and CAD
  • Effective English communication skills and able to communicate at all levels in organization
  • Sound technical knowledge of station maintenance and centreline including protection
  • Above average Engineering and technical knowledge of Turbo Generator and power generation equipment, components and systems.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and relevant ISO Standards
  • Knowledge of the OHSA, Construction regulations and Environmental Regulations
  • The Incumbent will be required to travel extensively nationally and internally based on business requirements
  • Must have the ability to effectively lead and direct a large team of engineers
  • Continuous improvement: Ensure that your administration document is current, and include your SHEQ objectives ensure that all legal appointments are valid and in place for your area of control.
  • SHEQ Compliance: As a Section 8 & 9 appointee, you are to ensure that the duties of the employer as contemplated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 are properly discharged and all legal appointment are valid and in place for your area control
  • Reduce Rework: Measure and report on Rework vs. Revenue for your department monthly and ensure you reduce rework to less than 0.5% of your turnover
  • ISO and OHSAS Certification: Ensure that all activities are carried out
  • Audit Rating: Maintain an audit score of less than 2 and/or receive no major audit findings
  • Ensure the development and enhancement of vibration specialist skills

  • Position: Chief Engineer Vibration and Diagnostics Area of specialization: Take full overall responsibility for the Turbine Specialised Services Section to provide a specialised machinery vibration monitoring, diagnostic and management service on power generation related plant, through remote on-line systems including routine and non-routine vibration analysis, machinery diagnostics, and remote or on-site in situ balancing services
