LegalWise invites South African students to apply for its Bursary Programme for the 2025 academic year. This bursary offers partial financial support for study-related expenses to LegalWise Members or their children who are pursuing specific qualifications.

What the Bursary Covers:
- Annual Registration Fees
- Tuition Fees (Capped at R44,000 per year)
Note: The bursary does not cover outstanding student debt or failed subjects.
Key Features of the Bursary:
- Academic Performance: Renewal of the bursary is contingent on maintaining satisfactory academic results.
- Vacation Work: Recipients must complete 5 weeks of paid vacation work at a LegalWise branch each year.
- Service Obligation: Graduates must fulfill a service contract with LegalWise, providing 6 months of service for each year of bursary funding.
Eligibility Requirements:
To be considered for this bursary, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Membership: You must be a LegalWise Member or the child of a LegalWise Member (biological, adopted, or under legal guardianship).
- Membership Duration: The LegalWise Member must have been fully paid up for at least 2 years before applying and must remain a member throughout the bursary period.
- Academic Status: Must have completed Matric and be studying full-time toward an approved qualification. You must be entering your second or higher year of study in 2025.
- University Requirements: Must be enrolled at one of the following universities:
- University of Johannesburg
- University of Witwatersrand
- University of Pretoria
- University of Cape Town
- University of the Western Cape
- University of Stellenbosch
- University of KwaZulu-Natal
- University of Limpopo
- University of Fort Hare
- University of the Free State
- Rhodes University
- North-West University (Mafikeng or Potchefstroom campus)
- Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University
- Academic Performance: A minimum overall average of 60% or a “C” symbol for the previous year of study.
- Language Proficiency: Fluent in English and at least one other South African official language.
- Personal Qualities: Positive attitude, determination, commitment, teamwork, initiative, communication, and interpersonal skills.
How to Apply:
- Download and complete the LegalWise Bursary Application Form 2025 (.pdf).
- Prepare the following supporting documents:
- Certified copy of your ID document.
- Passport-sized color photo (attached to the application form).
- Certified copy of your Matric certificate.
- Most recent academic transcript, including 2024 June exam results.
- Proof of university registration for the approved degree.
- Latest student account.
- Motivational letter about why you should be awarded the bursary.
- Optional: Letter of recommendation by a parent, guardian, or friend.
- Proof of LegalWise Membership.
- Certified copy of the LegalWise Member’s ID document.
- Proof of relation to the LegalWise Member (e.g., birth certificate, marriage certificate, court-ordered guardianship).
- Parent/guardian/spouse proof of income (latest financial statements, payslip, sworn affidavit, SASSA grant slip, death certificate if applicable).
