The Thebe Foundation Dr EJ Mabuza is inviting South African students to apply for its Scholarship Programme for the 2025 academic year.
The scholarship aims to support financially needy students by providing funding for undergraduate and postgraduate studies in various fields, helping students become professionals in their chosen careers.

Fields of Study
The scholarship will be awarded for Undergraduate and Postgraduate (Bachelor or Diploma) studies in the following fields:
- Accounting
- Agriculture
- Artisan Skills Programs (Electricians, Plumbing, Mechanics, Solar Voltaic Service Technicians, Millwrights, etc.)
- Corporate Finance
- Education (BEd specializing in Mathematics and Technology)
- Electrical Engineering
- Finance
- Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
- Media Information and Communication
- Mining Engineering
- Renewable Energy
- Water and Energy
Scholarship Coverage
The scholarship will cover the following expenses:
- Tuition fees
- Textbooks
- Accommodation: Either in residence or accredited accommodation
- Meals
- Transport allowance for students living at home
Note: The bursary does not cover historical debt (incurred before 2025).
Requirements
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be a Black student (African, Coloured, or Indian)
- Under 35 years of age
- Unemployed
- Currently in Matric or have completed Matric
- Must be studying or intend to study full-time in one of the eligible fields
- Must be studying or intend to study at undergraduate or postgraduate levels (Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Degree, Honours, or Master’s) — PhD studies are not funded
- Must be pursuing the qualification for the first time
- Must be studying or intend to study at a registered public tertiary institution (including community colleges and TVET colleges)
- Must have a strong academic record with a minimum average pass rate of 60%
- Household income must be less than R600,000 per year
- Must not have any outstanding student debt
- Must not be receiving any other bursary funding, including NSFAS

Required Documents
Applicants must submit the following certified copies (certified within the last 3 months) as part of their application:
- ID document
- Grade 9 final report, Grade 11 final report, and Matric Term 2 report (for current Matric students, stamped with official school stamp)
- TVET academic reports since leaving high school (N4, N6, etc.) (optional)
- Matric certificate (for those who completed Matric)
- Most recent official academic transcripts (if currently studying)
- Proof of registration at university for the 2024 academic year (if currently studying)
- Proof of acceptance/ provisional acceptance at an accredited institution for the 2025 academic year
- Parents’ or guardians’ ID documents/ death certificates
- Parents’ or guardians’ proof of household income (3 months’ payslips if employed/affidavit if unemployed/ SASSA documents if receiving a social grant)
- Motivational letter/statement indicating why you have chosen your field of study and how you intend to use it after graduation (1 page)
- Dept of Labour Employment Equity Act (EEA1) Form and a Doctor’s letter (if disabled)
- Proof of any other bursary funding/NSFAS, if applicable
- Parent/ guardian consent form (if under 18 years old)
