About the Role
The Professional Nurse (General) will be responsible for delivering evidence-based nursing care, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, and contributing to the effective functioning of multidisciplinary teams. The role demands professionalism, strong communication, and clinical competence to uphold the hospital’s high standards of patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, implement, and supervise quality nursing care in accordance with institutional standards and scope of practice.
- Ensure compliance with nursing and healthcare legislation, ethical practices, and hospital policies.
- Supervise and guide nursing support personnel to maintain consistent patient care.
- Promote a multidisciplinary approach to treatment by collaborating with other healthcare professionals.
- Act as a shift leader when required, ensuring effective delegation and task completion.
- Monitor and evaluate nursing care outcomes, ensuring quality and patient satisfaction.
- Manage and utilise human, physical, and material resources efficiently.
- Participate in training, mentoring, and professional development programmes.
- Uphold Batho Pele Principles and the Patient Rights Charter in daily operations.
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma/Degree in Nursing (Basic R171, R174, or R425) or equivalent qualification.
- Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional/Registered Nurse.
- Demonstrated knowledge of nursing laws, ethics, and quality assurance frameworks.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to plan, organize, and supervise nursing activities effectively.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
