Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) Graduate Internship Programme 2025

The HSRC Graduate Programme is designed to support graduates in Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET), Humanities, and Social Sciences (HSS) by providing them with structured and mentored work experience over a 24-month period.

  • Closing Date: 17 March 2025
  • Location: Pretoria, Gauteng
  • Duration: 24 months (2025/2027)
  • Remuneration: Monthly stipend provided

Who Can Apply?

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen or Permanent Resident (with a valid SA ID).
  • Be 35 years of age or younger at the time of appointment.
  • Hold a qualification (NQF Level 7 to 9) from a DHET-accredited institution:
    • NQF Level 7: Bachelorโ€™s, Advanced Diploma, or B-Tech Degree
    • NQF Level 8: Honours Degree or Postgraduate Diploma
    • NQF Level 9: Masterโ€™s Degree or M-Tech
  • Have completed their studies at the time of application.

Who is NOT Eligible?

  • Applicants with qualifications below NQF Level 7 or PhD (NQF Level 10).
  • Those currently registered for full-time studies.
  • Individuals already benefiting from DSI-funded scholarships or bursaries.
  • Past beneficiaries of the DSI-NRF or DSI-HSRC Internship Programme.

Host Institutions & Mentorship

Successful candidates will be placed at host institutions that:

  • Have mentors employed on long-term contracts.
  • Provide resources and infrastructure for interns.
  • Participate in training and mentor forums.

Application Process

The recruitment process involves:

  1. Hosting institutions submit requests for interns.
  2. Graduates apply and go through selection and verification processes.
  3. Matching and placement at host institutions.
  4. Interns undergo interviews and final selection by hosts.
  5. HSRC verifies eligibility and facilitates contracts.
